This year, perhaps more than ever, it’s the little things that are keeping us sane as the temperatures and humidity levels reach their annual peak. Yes, it’s hot outside – but compared to the weeks of rain when we were all confined to our homes just a few months ago we really all should be soaking up the season. While that sounds ideal in theory, there are still things we count on to lift our spirits (and our SPF levels) on the hottest days of the year. No matter what your taste or routine, adding a little something to boost your mood or beat the heat is always a good idea. These are just a few of the things we’re obsessed with at the moment that you might want to try this summer.

Beach Vibes

There is something about the classic beach scents and feels from adolescent summers that put me into an instantly relaxed mode. Over the years, I have fallen in love with products that have a touch of that ‘old-school’ summer smell and can’t ever get enough. It started with the Bobbi Brown Beach collection and then morphed into CB I hate perfume At The Beach 1966 roll on. This year, I have gone a little lighter and converted to layering all things Sun Bum brand. Since spending ample time in California, I came to rely on the brand’s incredible sunscreen products for face and body. You just can’t beat it for staying power and quality at the price. This season, I am also exploring their hair care line—from dry shampoo and leave-in conditioners to an easy post-pool styling cream. All of the products have that same nostalgic scent without being overpowering no matter how high the mercury rises.  — Stacie

Scentsation

One of my favorite ways to switch things up subtly for summer is with a scent; My go-to is always Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc (available at Nordstrom). I wear it every summer, and each year it reminds me of the prior Summer, and I love it! Scents are incredibly nostalgic, and I’d recommend changing them up occasionally to allow you to reminisce. – Jami-lyn

Nail Envy

We’ve all had to alter some of our regular beauty routines in the last few months. My attempt at at-home manicure/pedicures just did not have the same result as my usual professional job and my nails were looking a little rough. I was tired of my nails looking terrible and did a little research.  I found my nail savior- Lisa Phan Hall with Nashville Nail Co.  She and her staff are super friendly, safe (they all wear masks), and come to you for home (or office) manicures and pedicures.  They bring all of the tools and products that are provided in a salon – including gel or powder polishes. Now I can have sleek nails all season and beyond as I plan to use Nashville Nail Co. indefinitely.  – Lacey

Saving Face

I adore all things skincare- with the exception of sunscreen. That sentence is a bit of an oxymoron as sunscreen is obviously a necessity and crucial to stellar skin when it comes to a thoughtful routine. This year, I made it a personal mission to find a sunscreen that does not lead to breakouts. I finally discovered the holy grail that offers ample protection without causing breakouts. PCA Skin Weightless Protection SPF 45!  With none of the pore-clogging culprits I have experienced in the past, this weightless gem has been a total game-changer. It’s transformed me into a sunscreen lover! – Devan

Made in the Shade

My summer really does depend on key accessories, and Barton Perreira is my go-to brand for sunglasses. I bought my most recent pair for my scheduled spring break trip (that didn’t happen due to the pandemic). Despite the fact that I didn’t get to enjoy them at the beach, these glasses have been my favorite purchase for summer. I chose the “Bolsha” style and love how unique they are. The quality is superior, and they are not easily damaged when thrown in a work or pool bag. An added bonus (and another reason I love the brand) -for any wear and tear issues, I can take them to the friendly team at the Hill Center store in Green Hills to get them adjusted and cleaned. –Lauren

Hydration Station

Throughout quarantine, I have taken full advantage of getting outdoors and enjoying nature. Not only does it get me out of the house, but it is also very easy to socially distance while hiking. For my newfound hobby, I bought this cute Hydro Flask in the color “fog” for cool water to beat the heat for long hikes. A portion of the proceeds from a Hydro Flask purchase goes towards maintaining and restoring local, state, and national parks – so can feel great about your purchase while also staying hydrated! – Alaina
