Our newest column gives EDIT readers a personal look into some of Nashville’s most interesting inhabitants with snappy questions and some equally snappy answers. Our typical profiles dive deep into the lives of those featured, but the EDIT Files aims to shed light on the little glimmers of everyday life.

MEET ANGELA

Angela Simeone is a Nashville-based artist whose expressive work rests in color-theory. Her paintings offer an immediacy and physicality, many times simply due to the large scale of painting that she does.  Angela’s work has been featured in Luxe Magazine, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Domino Magazine, My Domaine, and more. She recently launched a Made In The USA wallpaper line of inventive designs translated from her original paintings and her work may be found at AngelaSimeone.com

Profession: Artist.

Can’t Start Your Morning Without: Being thankful for another sunrise, reading my Richard Rohr devotion, and listening to music.

Breakfast Go-to: Frosted Flakes. Butter toast. Bagels. Ham and Cheese Croissant.  Trader’s Joes All Dressed Up Instant Coffee. All of the above.

Mornings Are Filled With: Sending my three boys off to school in the morning followed by a walk/run/being drug around the neighborhood by my massive Bouvier dog while listening to Audible books which currently switches between Dune by Frank Herbert and What is the Bible?: How an Ancient Library of Poems, Letters, and Stories Can Transform the Way Think and Feel About Everything by Rob Bell.

Healthiest Habits: Letting shit go, just keep swimming (as Dory says), and a good cry.

Wellness Essentials You Swear By: Therapy sessions over zoom to break generational habits and discover who you choose to be moving forward in your life.

Favorite Scent: Heretic Sandalwood and Dirty Rose. Heretic creates all-natural scents, so I love that I know I am not ruining myself by wearing it.  It scares me the chemicals put into most perfumes.

Your Playlist Right Now: The Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, The War on Drugs, Kanye West, Sylvan Esso, Morrissey, Peter Murphy, and The Church.

Go-to Order at Your Favorite Nashville Restaurant: The roasted cauliflower appetizer, Asian Caesar salad, citrus and endive salad, or pork belly bahn mi from Etch Restaurant. I also love the sweet potato barbecue fries and horseradish parmesan toast from the newly opened Jasper’s on West End.

Currently Obsessed With: Nashville Hot Yoga Co on Hwy 100 (although I keep emailing asking if we can turn it down a bit so I stop almost passing out), cute unicorn items from Magpies Girl, Cryoskin and Cryotherapy from The Cool Spot off of White Bridge Road (they actually talk to you while you are in the deep freeze so you don’t get lonely), The Perfect Pair in Green Hills (they have the best shoes and jewelry), booking my family photography session (for posterity sake and Christmas card) with Mary Craven Photography @marycravenphotography—she is so easy to work with and has an amazing creative eye.

Your To-do List Right Now:

  1. Upload and post about 20 new paintings to my AngelaSimeone.com website.
  2. Finish wallpapering my living room with a print from my wallpaper line which again can be found on AngelaSimeone.com so that I can shoot my house and pitch for potential press coverage.
  3. Invite some friends over to sit around the fire circle and play Cards Against Humanity.

Current Mantra: “Accept what is.”

Finding Calm: I count my blessings on each finger and toe. I go for a run. And, I have an app for that… called Synctuition which works to create binaural beats which allow both hemispheres of your brain to work together and creates a scientifically proven level of well-being.

Best Advice You Have Ever Received: You cannot become who you want by remaining who you are.

Art Supply Obsession: Matte medium is an amazing tool for creating transparencies.

Creative Juices: I start with mental tough talk and say to myself “get your ass in the studio right now and just begin.” It works every time.

Latest Inspiration: The season change. I am in the mood for rich deep hues and a lot of bronze and gold tones.
