The Nashville Edit team enjoyed a mid-week meal at one of the Gulch’s latest hot spots, Superica (soo-pur-EEE-kah), and came away with some helpful tidbits so you can know exactly what to eat, drink, wear and expect from this Tex-Mex restaurant, owned by Nashville restaurateur, Ford Fry. (You may know him by his new Nashville staple, The Optimist).
The Neighborhood:
The Gulch
The Menu:
Austin-style Tex-Mex with a twist.
The Overall Vibe:
Eclectic, lively, with music that you can hear (and will want to download)!
The Crowd:
Cool local haunt with a few tourists (due to its off-the-beaten-path downtown locale).
The Cocktail:
Ask for Tommy’s Margarita; a secret off-the-menu version of a skinny margarita.
The Dish:
Hamburguesa Superica – Their unique and delicious twist on the classic cheeseburger, adding chile con carne.
The Playlist:
Upbeat, relaxed, changes constantly. A good dose of Texas-based country and Mexican Ranchero music. The music director makes an effort to include primarily songs that are written and recorded by Nashville-based independent artists and the mix changes daily.
The Look:
Texas Modernism with Tex-block and vintage wood interior, in classic Southwestern color tones. A 60s-inspired outdoor patio completes the look.
The Dress Code:
“Come as you are.” Everything goes at Superica. Comfortable and extremely casual; as the night goes on, don’t be afraid to step it up a bit, but never formal.
Spotted by the Edit:
Robert Plant, Little Big Town, Dierks Bentley, Randy Travis, Kelsea Ballerini, and Florida-Georgia Line
The Take-Away:
Chef Ford Fry’s cookbook – “TEX-MEX: TRADITIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND
COMFORT FOODS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER”
Superica also has a few sister locations outside of Tennessee, and chef Ford Fry isn’t slowing down. Right now you can find branches of Superica at their home base, 99 Krog Street, Atlanta, GA; and six other locations including two more in Georgia, two in Charlotte, NC, and one in Houston, TX. So if you’re in town and craving excellent Tex-Mex, head to Superica!
